IN THE KITCHEN

QUIET BEFORE THE STORM
While the renowned pool of the Beverly Hilton Hotel is slowly being transformed into the venue of one of the hottest after parties of the Golden Globe Awards, two visiting tourists – ready to take their place in the bleachers this Sunday – are staying put at the pool as long as they can.
Who can blame them. They escaped this week’s blizzard in New York.

If the Golden Globe Awards had an Angel, it might as well be the Beverly Hilton’s setup manager Angel Rodriguez.
This year’s ceremony will be Angel’s 18th Golden Globe Awards. It is his responsibility to make sure that 110 tables are perfectly setup, and 1300 guests are comfortably seated.
Throughout the years, Angel has held a perfect record. One year, however, Angel truly saved the ballroom. “Shortly before the show, we all of sudden realized that due to some miscommunication, over a hundred chairs had been removed during the last camera rehearsals,” he recalls.
“We had to scramble to get them all back at the tables, and the last chair was literally placed the moment the Golden Globes went live!”

“Mr. Connery turned around, talked to my supervisor, came back and handed me a second glass saying, ‘Here’s a toast to both our health!’”
Golden Globe winner Mickey Rourke is responsible for his second most memorable Golden Globe moment. “He saw my name tag and acted in a very funny way upset, saying ‘What the heck are you doing at the Globes!’, to which I replied, ‘But Mickey, I am the only Oscar at the Globes!’”
