The World Press Photo organization has recognized a photograph taken by Spanish photojournalist Samuel Aranda as the best news photograph of the year.

The relatively simple, but powerful, photograph shows a woman holding a wounded relative in her arms, at a field hospital used by demonstrators against the rule of Yemen’s President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
