WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO KNOW YOU’LL BE MISS GOLDEN GLOBE 2011?
GM: “It’s such an honor to be part of such an ongoing tradition. I’ve grown upwatching the Golden Globes with my family, and my father himself has beennominated for a Golden Globe (for “The Rat Pack” in 1999), so it’s an incrediblehonor to be part of it myself so early on in my career. I’m only 20, and I feel thereis so much ahead of me. To be Miss Golden Globe is hugely astounding andreally exciting.”
DO YOU RECALL AN ENDEARING HOLLYWOOD STORY INVOLVING YOUR FATER, Joe Mantegna?
GM: “What’s funny is that my father often plays the villain like myself. I don’tknow what it is. Maybe the Italian in me, or the dark hair (laughs).”
WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR FATHER’S FAVORITE PERFORMANCES AS A ACTOR?
GM: “A lot of the roles that he has portrayed, I was too young to watch any of hisfilms. I was maybe six or seven, and there were things that weren’t appropriatefor my age. My father has this huge career, but half of it I haven’t even seenmyself. But the work that I have seen of his, of course I appreciate it, and I lookup to him, and my mother, so much. Now, I watch his show ‘Criminal Minds.’And I have been fortunate enough to do a guest spot on that, and I had a greattime. Unfortunately, we didn’t have any scenes together. I have definitely grownup seeing my father just as my father, and not as the actor. I feel I have lived anaverage life like every other teenager out there. I feel very blessed my parentshave raised me the way they have.”
WAS HE HAPPY OR SHOCKED THAT YOU WANTED TO FOLLOW IN HIS FOOTSTEPS?
GM: “He didn’t have much of an opinion. He was very much like, ‘You knowwhat? If it makes you happy, do it!’ And my mother said the same thing. It wasnever a push or pull. As long as I focused on my school work, they were verysupportive. But it was pretty much on my effort. They didn’t want me to feel likeI had any special treatment just because I was the daughter of an actor. Sure,my father may have gotten me in the door, but that’s not keeping me in the door.Whether this is really something I want to do, that’s up to me. And I’ve had agreat time exploring all the different roles.”
WHEN DID YOU DECIDE ACTING WAS YOUR ULTIMATE DESTINATION?
GM: “I started in theater at a really young age. It was just something I wanted todo. I was a very outgoing person, this very goofy, silly girl. Always trying to makeeveryone laugh. I was a total ham. And acting was just another outlet to expressmyself, try new things and enjoy it. Now, it has become a way to escape my lifeand portray other roles. I knew I wanted to do something creative. I love doingphotography. Anything that’s creative and in the arts I really appreciate. I tookballet for eight years, so I’m also a dancer.”

Halle Berry treasures the Golden Globe and other awards she has amassed during her career but, she says, none of them has helped her professionally.
“It is what it is,” she said during a recent visit to the Hollywood Foreign Press offices in West Hollywood. ” It’s a wonderful honor and when you first win it, you think, ‘Oh, I’m going to get all the best scripts sent to my house now, but that just really doesn’t happen. It’s a big myth.
“If you sit around waiting for someone to drop a good script at your door, you may wait yourself right out of your career. It took me a while to learn but you want to have the kind of career you dream of you have to start producing your own projects and telling your own stories.”
Halle, who won her Golden Globe in 2000 for her role in the made-for-television film Introducing Dorothy Dandrige, has done just that and has produced her latest film, Frankie and Alice, in which she plays a young woman struggling with multiple personality disorder.

Daughter of Golden Globe Nominated Actor Joe Mantegna
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) has selected actress Gia Mantegna as Miss Golden Globe 2011 for The 68th Annual Golden Globe® Awards. HFPA President Philip Berk made the announcement this evening at The First Party of the 2011 Golden Globe Award Season, hosted by the HFPA and InStyle. The star-studded event was held at Cecconi’s in West Hollywood and was presented by FUZE®.
Chosen by the HFPA, Miss Golden Globe is traditionally the child of a well-known celebrity and assists during the Golden Globe Awards ceremony. The 68th Annual Golden Globe® Awards will air LIVE coast-to-coast on Sunday, January 16, 2011 on NBC from 5:00-8:00 p.m. (PST)/8:00-11:00 p.m. (EST) from the Beverly Hilton Hotel with host Ricky Gervais.
“We are thrilled to have Gia as this year’s Miss Golden Globe,” said Berk. “She is just as talented as she is beautiful and will surely be a great addition to the show.”

Daughter of Golden Globe nominated actor Joe Mantegna and Arlene Vrhel, Mantegna is quickly emerging as one of the most promising new actors of her generation. She currently stars in TeenNick’s new television series Gigantic, which takes a fictional look at the complicated lives of children of Hollywood celebrities.
Mantegna made her debut at the age of 13 in the 2003 film Uncle Nino, alongside Anne Archer, Trevor Morgan and her father. In 2006, she starred in Warner Brother’s Unaccompanied Minors. During Mantegna’s short career, she has also appeared alongside Jennifer Garner in 13 Going on 30 and Adam Brody in In the Land of Women. She recently finished production of Emergo. Mantegna’s television credits include CBS’s hit dramas, Criminal Minds and Medium, as well as a recurring role as Patty on ABC Family’s The Secret Life of the American Teenager.
When not filming, Mantegna spends her time exploring her other passions, piano, drums and still photography.

Golden Globe nominated actor Jack Black‘s meeting with Hollywood Foreign Press members in London was interrupted by a protest march outside the Dorchester Hotel.
Black and members watched from the hotel windows as the demonstrators marched past banging drums, singing and protesting at job and environmental cuts.
“Gee, there’s a lot of excitement out there,” said Black, who was at the hotel to talk about his latest movie, Gulliver’s Travels.
As well as Gulliver’s Travels Black, who won his Golden Globe nomination in 2004 for best actor in a comedy or musical for School of Rock, has three other movies awaiting release next year—Kung Fu Panda 2, The Big Year and Bernie.
He is also recording his second album with his band Tenacious D, which will open for the Foo Fighters in concert in Australia early next year.
