A roster of stellar musicians under the guidance of legendary music producer T-Bone Burnett performed a benefit concert for the movie Inside Llewyn Davis at the Town Hall in New York City and attended by a group of HFPA members.
The film, written and directed by Ethan and Joel Coen and produced by Scott Rudin, follows the fictional out-of-luck folk singer Llewyn Davis , played by Oscar Isaac, drifting through the New York Club scene of the 1960s.
The New York premiere included the concert Another Day, Another Time Celebrating the Music of Llewyn Davis. Golden Globe winner T-Bone Burnett produced the enthusiastically received three hour-plus concert.
Highlights were performances by Joan Baez, Jack White, Patti Smith and a surprise appearance of Elvis Costello who performed Please, Please Mr. Kennedy, an original song performed in the movie by Justin Timberlake. Fellow cast members Carey Mulligan, Oscar Isaac and Stark Sands performed as well. John Goodman, who plays an over-the-hill jazz man in the film, MC’d the event. The line-up included Marcus Mumford, Punch Brothers, AvettBrothers, Rhiannon Giddens, Lake Street Dive, Colin Meloy, Milk Carton Kids, Conor Oberst, Secret Sisters, Gilian Welch & David Rawlings and Willie Watson. The concert will air on Showtime in mid December.At the after concert party at the The Bowery Hotel some of the musicians started an impromptu jam session.
