A new Jason Bourne thriller, The Bourne Legacy, is in the works at Universal and like the other Bourne adventures it will be filmed in locations across Europe—but it is unlikely to star Matt Damon.
The 40-year-old actor, who starred in the previous three Bourne films, has told HFPA members that he is looking for projects that will keep him close to home so that he can spend more time with his family.
“I tend to look for things to shoot in the area as much as possible,” said Matt, who lives in New York with his Argentinian-born wife Luciana and their four children.
“Alexia, my 12-year-old, and Isabella, my four-year-old, are both in school here and Alexia is starting to have a social life so we can’t just pick up and move to Europe for a year like we did in the past, as wonderful as that experience was for the kids,” he said.
Matt, who has two other daughters, Gia, 2, and Stella, who was born last month, recently finished filming True Grit for the Coen brothers and is currently working on the thriller Contagion, which also stars Kate Winslet and Jude Law and is being directed by Steven Soderbergh.
The Bourne Legacy will be written and directed by Tony Gilroy, who wrote the screenplays for the previous Bourne movies.
