JANET JACKSON’S HOLIDAYS ALL ABOUT FAMILY

With Thanksgiving and the holiday season approaching, most Americans are planning parties and celebrations.
But not Janet Jackson. The youngest sibling of the pop music dynasty tells Hollywood Foreign Press members that her family does not believe in parties.
“My family is different,” says 44-year-old Janet, who co-stars in Tyler Perry’s movie For Coloured Girls. “We grew up as Jehovah’s Witnesses so we didn’t grow up celebrating Thanksgiving or Halloween or Easter or even birthdays.
“The first time I ever had a birthday party was when I was 23 and it was a surprise and I was so embarrassed. I was on the Rhythm Tour and I had never experienced having a birthday party ever before.”
The Jacksons, do, however, celebrate family reunions. “They try to get everyone together over Thanksgiving for what they call Family Day,” she says. “It’s hard getting all of us together because there’s so many of us. But we do pretty well.”
